iSMS to boost rescue operations

 

The Helsinki Rescue Department is the largest rescue department in Finland and is responsible for rescue operations, first aid, emergency ambulance services and civil defense in the capital’s demanding operating environment. Helsinki Rescue Department receives yearly over 44 000 alarms. To succesfully proceed this extensive number of alarms require functioning basic management systems as well as other personnel planning and management systems. According to the strategy of Helsinki Rescue Department the goal is to be among top rescue departments in the nation. The Helsinki Rescue Department has developed in co-operation with Proha Plc the mRescuePlanner –application, which utilizes the iSMS technology developed and patented by BookIT. By using the mRescuePlanner The Helsinki Rescue Department is able to cut the delay times, upgrade the alert level and alert personnel more efficiently than before.

With this new mRescuePlanner –application the existing personnel management application together with Proha’s Mobile Workflow Manager –technology can automatically upgrade the alert level and call personnel to work by sending them an iSMS –message. After receiving the iSMS -message rescue worker is able to acknowledge and respond according to the options given by sending an intelligent “One-button” response message. In this process the personnel management application actives BookIT’s iSMS –centre to automatically perform the conditions given. These conditions can be to send a confirmation message, to request for more personnel and to indicate the real time status on the screen of the personnel management application. The new data generated during the process is automatically stored in to the application’s database to be used for example in salary payment and planning of work shifts.

According to Helsinki Rescue Department by using the new mRescuePlanner –application they are able to eliminate unnecessary phone calls and a lot of valuable time and other resources. The mRescuePlanner –application is easy to use because the user is not required to activate the system, remember any service numbers, passwords or any other instructions.

Helsinki Rescue Department states that the mRescuePlanner –application can easily be extended to serve all personnel alarm needs of the department.  In addition, the mRescuePlanner –application can easily be integrated into existing systems without need for new devices or hardware.
