Press release: Bookit takes iSMS® to the U.S.

The inventor of iSMS, Jukka Salonen is poised to take the enhanced version of SMS, known as iSMS® to the U.S. market.  iSMS® works on any phone with traditional texting capability, but has significant advantages for enterprise applications such as airline check-in, mobile banking, payment confirmations, appointment scheduling, and field-force management.  iSMS® has been in use for years by Finnish companies such as Finnair and Nokia Siemens Networks.  Now, with over 80% of the U.S population owning a cell phone, U.S. enterprises have become eager to pilot iSMS® applications.

BookIT, the Finnish firm that owns the patents and trademark for iSMS® has been marketing its services to U.S. enterprises for years, but only recently have U.S. companies realized the value of iSMS® to improved business processes and customer service.  As a result of overwhelming interest in the U.S., BookIT has set up a U.S. office and plans to launch its first commercial campaigns in late 2009, early 2010.

Americans, who were late-comers to the SMS revolution, have nonetheless grown eager for new text message services including “two-way” text messaging.  Many Americans are already accustomed to entering in codes and keywords that allow them to make use of mobile ad campaigns and win prizes, but iSMS® will bring a variety of more meaningful transactions to the mainstream.  For example, airline mobile check-in will no longer be limited to passengers with smartphones, but will available to anyone with texting capability.  Confirming appointments, authorizing payments, renewing subscriptions, and other transactions of daily life will be all that much simpler with BookIT’s “one-button” response.

Behind iSMS® is BookIT’s DDM®  technology, which is able to create a chain of SMS messages, so that when you reply to a text message, the company receiving it knows with certainty what message you are responding to, and what the full context of that message is.  Sounds simple, but traditional SMS simply doesn’t have this capability.  In addition to linking text messages into two-way dialogues, iSMS® adds a higher level of authentication, and allows users to select among multiple choice options by replying with just one letter.   These innovations fill the gaps left behind in traditional SMS, bringing sophisticated services to anyone with a mobile phone.
